Petroleum Spills

To All Fire Department Members

    1. Spills of any amount that reach the surface waters pf the State, or
    2. Spills of any amount that enter a storm and/or sanitary sever system; spills of gasoline of other flammable liquids that enter storm/sanitary severs should also be reported to the local sewage treatment plant operator and/or Public Works Department, or
    3. Spills of 25 gallons or more on land that do mot impact surface waters; spills of less than 25 gallons need not be reported if the spill is contained and immediately and cleaned up.
    4. Spills on land that will ultimately seep into surface of groundwater of the State.

    1. Your name and phone number
    2. Location of the spill site
    3. Data and time of the spill
    4. Type and amount of material spilled
    5. Name and phone number of the party responsible for the spill.

  • DO NOT USE DISPERSANTS

  1. Is there an imminent fire of safety hazard?
  2. What can be done to contain the spill on land for prompt removal?
  3. If the spill must be flushed from the area, (this is a last resort) what can be done to prevent entrance into State waters?
