Purpose:

To provide a uniform guideline for fire department personnel that are Firefighter/EMT’s responding to fire/rescue calls. If the firefighter/EMT is not part of the on-duty ambulance crew and is needed to help with patient care and transportation these guidelines shall be followed to insure accountability of personnel at an emergency scene.

Responsibilities:

Report to fire department staging officer to be placed on the fire department roster.

Wait for incident commander to assign duties, (traffic, jaws, lighting, fire protection, or working with ambulance crew.)

If requested by the medical command, a fire department incident commander can release the Firefighter/ EMT to medical command for assignment.
The staging officer will circle the Firefighter/ EMT’s name and write ambulance next to the name on the roster. This is done only if the Firefighter/ EMT is a member of both the fire department and Gorham Emergency Medical Service and is involved in transporting the patient

Conclusion:

When members of the Gorham Fire Department /Gorham Emergency Medical Service report to an incident when not on duty with Gorham Emergency Medical Service, they should report to staging and wait to be assigned to patient care by the incident commander. Remember that scene safety is the first priority of everyone.
